The Accuracy of Sst Retrievals from Aatsr : Synthesis and Integration of Comparisons to Buoys and Radiometers

چکیده
The Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR), launched on ENVISAT in March 2002, is the third in a series of instrument designed to make precise and accurate global Sea Surface Temperature (SST) estimations. At the time of the ENVISAT Symposium 2007, geophysical validation indicates that the AATSR 1 km and 10' spatially averaged D3 SSTs are generally in specification, in that AATSR 1 km D3 SSTs have a warm bias of +0.10 K (σ = 0.38 K) in the Caribbean with a smaller bias +0.01 K (σ = 0.24 K) observed in the Bay of Biscay. Corresponding AATSR 10' D3 SSTs have a warm bias of +0.17 K (σ = 0.24 K) in the Caribbean with a smaller bias -0.02 K (σ = 0.28 K) observed in the Bay of Biscay. Detailed analysis of both D2-N2 and D3-N3 radiometer match-ups indicates a bio-modal distribution, which can be used to provide improved confidence in the AATSR data by removing aerosol and cloud contaminated data.

The Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) onboard ESA’s Envisat Satellite, is the third in a series of precision radiometers designed to measure Sea Surface Temperature (SST). Since March 2004, an operational Land Surface Temperature (LST) product has also been available, which is the first of its kind since the (A)ATSR mission began in 1991. This product utilises a nadir-only split-...

The Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) on board ENVISAT is the third in a series of instruments, together with ATSR-1 and -2 on board ERS 1 & 2, to establish a 16 year dataset of high accuracy (±0.3K) skin sea surface temperature (SST) data. These data are extremely useful for climate change and numerical weather prediction (NWP). However, tropospheric aerosols such as Saharan dus...
متن کاملA Multivariate Regression Approach to Adjust AATSR Sea Surface Temperature to In Situ Measurements
The Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) onboard Envisat is designed to provide very accurate measurements of sea surface temperature (SST). Using colocated in situ drifting buoys, a dynamical matchup database (MDB) is used to assess the AATSR-derived SST products more precisely. SST biases are then computed. Currently, Medspiration AATSR SST biases are discrete values and can intro...
